La Baraque Michel ist eine Ortschaft, die auf dem Plateau der Hohen Venn liegt. Es ist der dritthöchste Punkt in Belgien und der Wallonischen Region mit einer Höhe von 674 Metern.
La Baraque Michel wurde zwischen 1811 und 1813 von einem Mann namens Michel Schmitz aus Herbiester (einem Weiler nahe Jalhay) gegründet. Zu dieser Zeit war es bereits ein Gasthaus, aber auch ein Zufluchtsort für verlorene Reisende.
Bei nebligem Wetter wurde dort die Glocke geläutet, was zur Rettung von mehr als hundert Menschen im neunzehnten Jahrhundert führte.
Heute beherbergt La Baraque immer noch ein Gasthaus und ist der Ausgangspunkt für viele Wanderungen durch die sie umgebenden Hochmoore.
