La Baraque Michel is een lokaliteit gelegen op het plateau van de Hoge Venen. Het is het op twee na hoogste punt in België en de Waalse regio, met een hoogte van 674 meter. La Baraque Michel werd tussen 1811 en 1813 opgericht door een man genaamd Michel Schmitz uit Herbiester (een gehucht nabij Jalhay). In die tijd was het al een herberg, maar ook een toevluchtsoord voor verloren reizigers. Bij mistig weer werd daar de bel geluid, wat leidde tot de redding van meer dan honderd mensen tijdens de negentiende eeuw. Tegenwoordig huisvest La Baraque nog steeds een herberg en is het het vertrekpunt voor veel wandelingen door de omliggende Venen.
