La Baraque Michel est un lieu-dit situé sur le plateau des Hautes Fagnes. Il s’agit du troisième point culminant de Belgique et de la Région Wallonne, avec une altitude de 674 mètres.
La Baraque Michel fut fondée entre 1811 et 1813 par un nommé Michel Schmitz de Herbiester (hameau près de Jalhay). A l’époque, c’était déjà une auberge, mais également un refuge pour voyageurs égarés.
Par temps de brouillard, on y sonnait la cloche, ce qui permit le sauvetage de plus d'une centaine de personnes au cours du XIXe siècle.
Désormais, La Baraque abrite toujours une auberge et est le point de départ de nombreuses randonnées à travers les Fagnes qui l’entourent.
