Der Fischmarkt wurde 1745 an die Braamberg, einen Platz zwischen der Groene Rei und der Braambergstraat, verlegt. Zuvor wurde der Fisch auf dem Markt verkauft. Der Marktplatz wurde erst 1820-1821 mit einem neoklassizistischen Gebäude überdacht, gestaltet von dem Stadtarchitekten Jan-Robert Calloigne. Eine doppelte Kolonnade aus 126 toskanischen Säulen ohne Basis umschließt einen rechteckigen Innenhof. Das höher gezogene Eingangsportal mit Gewölbe bildet die einzige Unterbrechung in der Säulenreihe.
