An diesem belebten Verkehrsknotenpunkt sieht man, wie dieses alte Industriegebiet allmählich ein neues Gesicht erhält. Der trendige weiße EKLA-Wohnturm, der an der Stelle errichtet wurde, an der die Brauerei Vandenheuvel bis 1974 ekla-pils braute, ist das deutlichste Symbol dafür.
Die Vandepereboomstraße und die daneben liegenden Bahngleise bilden eine klare Grenze zwischen Alt-Molenbeek und den jüngeren städtischen Vierteln im Westen von Molenbeek. Der Bau einer Eisenbahnlinie und des Güterbahnhofs Brüssel-West prägen um 1870 die weitere (industrielle) Entwicklung der Stadtteile entlang der Trasse.
Seit der Schließung des Güterbahnhofs im Jahr 1984 liegt das Gelände weitgehend brach. Dennoch bietet es Chancen, eine grüne Zone für Spaziergänger, Radfahrer und Anwohner zu schaffen.
