In questo affollato incrocio stradale puoi vedere come questa vecchia zona industriale stia gradualmente acquisendo un nuovo aspetto. La trendy torre residenziale bianca EKLA, costruita nel luogo dove fino al 1974 la birreria Vandenheuvel produceva la birra ekla-pils, ne è il simbolo più evidente.
La Vandepereboomstraat e i binari ferroviari adiacenti formano un chiaro confine tra Oud-Molenbeek e i quartieri più recentemente urbanizzati a ovest di Molenbeek. La costruzione di una linea ferroviaria e della stazione merci di Bruxelles-Ovest, intorno al 1870, contribuisce ulteriormente allo sviluppo (industriale) dei quartieri lungo il tracciato.
Dalla chiusura della stazione merci nel 1984, il sito è rimasto in gran parte incolto. Tuttavia, offre opportunità per creare una zona verde per pedoni, ciclisti e residenti del quartiere.
