Man kann es sich nicht crazier vorstellen, als dass De Inslag es gewesen ist: von Heidegebieten, Äckern und Wiesen über ein prestigeträchtiges Schlossgelände und Jagdambiente bis hin zu einem echten Schlachtfeld während der Weltkriege.
Beide Weltkriege haben De Inslag harte Treffer versetzt und hinterlassen bis heute ihre Spuren in diesem Domäne. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde der Wald gerodet, um die Sichtbarkeit rund um den Festungsring von Antwerpen zu erhöhen. 36 Jahre später fiel die Axt erneut auf den Wald, um Platz für die Schützengräben zu schaffen. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg begann man mit der Aufforstung. Kiefern und Lärchen bedeckten bald große Teile von De Inslag. 1980 kaufte die flämische Regierung De Inslag.
