Domain Forest The Impact

You can hardly imagine anything that hasn't taken place at De Inslag: from heathland, fields, and meadows to a prestigious castle estate and hunting grounds, even to a real battlefield during the world wars. Both world wars dealt severe blows to De Inslag and continue to leave their marks on this domain to this day. During the First World War, the forest was cut down to increase visibility around the fortifications of Antwerp. 36 years later, the axe fell again in the forest to make way for the trenches. After the Second World War, reforestation began. Scots pines and larches quickly covered large parts of De Inslag. In 1980, the Flemish government bought De Inslag.
