No se puede imaginar nada que no haya sido De Inslag: desde un área de brezos, campos y prados hasta un prestigioso dominio de castillo y decorado de caza, hasta un verdadero campo de batalla durante las guerras mundiales. Ambas guerras mundiales dieron a De Inslag golpes duros y todavía hoy dejan su huella en este dominio. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, se taló el bosque para aumentar la visibilidad alrededor del cinturón de fortalezas de Amberes. 36 años después, el hacha volvió a atravesar el bosque para hacer espacio para las trincheras. Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, se comenzó con la reforestación. Los pinos y larices cubrieron rápidamente grandes partes de De Inslag. En 1980, el gobierno flamenco compró De Inslag.
