Im Jahr 2021 erhielt das Einzugsgebiet der Vesder und Maas eine hohe Menge an Niederschlag. Aber wusstest du, dass ein Szenario diskutiert wurde, um diesen Damm in Mosin zu sprengen? Zu dieser Zeit war man gerade mit den Restaurierungsarbeiten beschäftigt und nur 2 der 6 Wehre funktionierten. Das Ergebnis war, dass maximal 1800 m3 pro Sekunde den Damm passieren konnten. Und es wurden mehr als 2000 m3 pro Sekunde vorhergesagt. Das könnte für Lüttich, das flussaufwärts lag, katastrophal werden. Aber das Sprengen des Damms wäre katastrophal für Opeye und Herstal gewesen, die flussabwärts liegen. Der Abfluss stieg tatsächlich auf 3000 m3 pro Sekunde. Trotzdem ließ man den Damm so. Man opferte das gesamte Bauprojekt zugunsten des Damms, und so konnte doch mehr Wasser durchfließen.
