Das Schlachthaus von Anderlecht oder Kuregem in Brüssel ist nach wie vor in Betrieb und veranschaulicht hervorragend die industrielle Architektur des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts.
Im Jahr 1887 wurde beschlossen, das kommunale Schlachthaus durch ein neues Gebäude zu ersetzen. Das alte war die Ursache für ernsthafte Probleme beim Transport von Vieh und im Bereich der Hygiene aufgrund veralteter Anlagen und der Entsorgung von Abfällen in die Zenne, wodurch für andere Aktivitäten kein sauberes Wasser mehr aus dem Fluss entnommen werden konnte. Es wurde entschieden, einen Standort in Kuregem zu wählen, wo es nach wie vor bedeutende feuchte Gebiete gibt. Der Standort ist günstig an dem Kanal Brüssel-Charleroi gelegen, nahe einer Eisenbahnlinie.
