El matadero de Anderlecht o Kuregem en Bruselas todavía está en uso y ilustra a la perfección la arquitectura industrial del siglo XIX.
En 1887 se decidió reemplazar el matadero municipal por un nuevo edificio. El antiguo era la causa de serios problemas en el transporte de ganado y en el ámbito de la higiene debido a instalaciones obsoletas y a la descarga de desechos en el Zenne, lo que impedía extraer agua limpia del río para otras actividades. Se eligió una ubicación en Kuregem, donde todavía existen importantes áreas pantanosas. El lugar está convenientemente situado junto al canal Bruselas-Charleroi, cerca de una línea de tren.
