Auf dem Marktplatz von Eeklo steht die Statue des Eeklose Herbakker von Leo De Buysere, die auf die Legende von Eeklo verweist. Laut der Legende konnte man nach Eeklo kommen, um seinen Kopf umschmieden zu lassen. Ein Bild des Umschmiedens findet man an der Wand des Kulturzentrums „De Herbakker“ und auch im Heemmuseum gibt es hier ein Bild. Auf einem 7 Meter hohen Stahlsockel steht die Statue, die von dem ostwinkelschen Künstler Leo De Buysere entworfen und von Dirk De Graeve aus Hansbeke in Bronze gegossen wurde. Die Katze hat nichts mit der Legende zu tun, aber eine Bäckerei ohne Katze war undenkbar.
