On the market square of Eeklo stands the statue of the Eeklo Baker by Leo De Buysere, referencing the legend of Eeklo. According to the legend, you could come to Eeklo to have your head re-baked. An image of the re-baking can be found on the wall of the cultural center "De Herbakker," and you can also find an image in the Heemmuseum. On a steel pedestal that is 7 meters high stands the statue designed by the artist Leo De Buysere from Oostwinkel and cast in bronze by Dirk De Graeve from Hansbeke. The cat has nothing to do with the legend, but a bakery without a cat was unthinkable.
