Geistingen ist ein Kirchendorf, das zu Ophoven gehört, einer Teilgemeinde der belgischen Gemeinde Kinrooi in der Provinz Limburg. Die älteste Form ist "Westingue" aus dem Jahr 1178. Die Schreibweise mit "g", in der Form: Ghestinghen, Ghestingen, Guystingen, Geystingen, Geistingen, wird bereits 1181 erwähnt, also praktisch zur gleichen Zeit. Ab 1202 stoßen wir auf den Namen "Neder-Geistingen", um ihn von "Op-Geistingen" zu unterscheiden, dem späteren Ophoven, das also jünger ist. Geistingen hat also geheißen: Westingue - Ghestinghen - Neer-Geistingen - Geistingen.
