Du befindest dich mitten im Brüsseler Viertel Matonge. Es ist ein Viertel, in dem sich vor allem Brüsseler mit afrikanischen Wurzeln treffen und ihre Einkäufe erledigen.
Die Entstehung dieses Viertels beginnt mit der Gründung von La Maison Africaine zu Beginn der 1960er Jahre. Diese Organisation in der Elzas-Lothringen-Straße beherbergt kongolesische und andere afrikanische Studenten. Vor der kongolesischen Unabhängigkeit im Jahr 1960 gibt es in diesem Viertel zudem viele koloniale Bars, in denen sich Menschen, die aus dem Kongo zurückkehren, treffen und Geschäfte machen. Das Viertel wird so zu einem kolonialen Zentrum im Hinterhof des Königlichen Palastes.
Die Route verläuft weiter entlang der kürzlich autofreien Elsensesteenweg. Eine große Verbesserung für Zweiradfahrer und Fußgänger!
