Mariakerke ist ein Badeort in der belgischen Provinz Westflandern und ein Teil der Stadt Ostende. Die ehemalige Gemeinde westlich von Ostende ist heute im Osten mit der Stadt zusammengewachsen und hat etwa 11.000 Einwohner.
Eine alte Erwähnung des Ortes geht bis ins Jahr 1171 zurück, als S. Mariae Capella. Das Dorf hat seinen Ursprung in der Siedlung "Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Streep". Dies war eine Siedlung, die im 11. Jahrhundert auf Testerep entstand, einer Insel, die sich vor der Küste zwischen dem heutigen Ostende und Westende erstreckte. Ein breiter Graben trennte die Insel vom Festland. Der größte Teil von Testerep gehörte zur Pfarrei Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Streep, deren älteste Erwähnung aus dem Jahr 1115 stammt. Auch Ostende-ter-Streep, ursprünglich ein Weiler, gehörte zu dieser Pfarrei.
