Die ursprüngliche Kapelle wurde auf Initiative der Anwohner gegründet und am 5. Juli 1932 von Pastor Ernest Lebbe geweiht. Wahrscheinlich entstand die Kapelle auch durch den großen Einfluss von flämischen oder sozialchristlichen Vereinen. Eine Verbreiterung der Schoolstraat sorgte dafür, dass die Kapelle 1959 verschwinden musste. Man gab jedoch nicht auf und begann sofort mit den Vorbereitungen für den Bau einer neuen Kapelle, entworfen von Etienne Ducatteeuw. Mgr. Depoorter, der Vizegeneralsuperintendent des Bistums Brügge, sorgte für die Weihe im Dezember 1960.
