Die Basilika von Koekelberg ist die fünftgrößte Kirche der Welt, nach der Basilika Notre-Dame de la Paix in Yamoussoukro in der Côte d'Ivoire, der Peterskirche in Rom, der St.-Pauls-Kathedrale in London und der Kirche Santa Maria Dei Fiori in Florenz.
Heute ist die Basilika in erster Linie ein Ort des Gebets für den Frieden. Sie wird für Gemeindefeiern und nationale Feierlichkeiten genutzt.
Aber die Basilika von Koekelberg hat noch viel mehr zu bieten. Sie hat auch eine wichtige kulturelle Funktion.
