Kaltennordheim ist eine Kleinstadt in der Rhön im Landkreis Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thüringen. Sie ist Mitglied und Sitz der Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Hohe Rhön.
Im Mittelalter wurde der Ort „Nordheim im Tullifeld“ genannt. Erst ab dem 14. Jahrhundert trat der Zusatz Kalten- auf, der sich vermutlich von der relativ kühlen, rauen Witterung der Orte Kaltennordheim, Kaltensundheim, Kaltenlengsfeld und Kaltenwestheim, bedingt durch die ungünstige Lage hinter den im Süden liegenden Bergen, ableitet. Außerdem war der Zusatz wohl zweckmäßig zur Unterscheidung von anderen Orten wie Nordheim v.d.Rhön.
