Güstrow [ˈgʏstroː] ist mit rund 30.000 Einwohnern die siebtgrößte Stadt Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns und Kreisstadt des Landkreises Rostock. Die Stadt ist Sitz des Amts Güstrow-Land, dem 14 Gemeinden angehören, selbst aber amtsfrei. Sie ist eines der 18 Mittelzentren des Landes und führt seit 2006 offiziell den Namenszusatz „Barlachstadt“ nach dem Bildhauer Ernst Barlach.
Güstrow ist als historische Residenzstadt bekannt für sein Schloss, seine gut erhaltene Altstadt mit vielen wertvollen Bauwerken und seinen Dom mit dem „Schwebenden“ von Barlach. Die 1236 begründete Domschule Güstrow ist eine der ältesten Schulen im deutschen Sprachraum, seit 1991 ist die Stadt zudem Sitz der Fachhochschule für öffentliche Verwaltung, Polizei und Rechtspflege des Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
