Das KZ Bad Sulza wurde von Oktober 1933 bis zum 1. August 1937 in einem alten Hotel der Kur-Stadt Bad Sulza betrieben.
Das Konzentrationslager wurde bis zum 1. Juli 1936 vom Land Thüringen betrieben und finanziert. Verantwortlich war der Thüringer Innenminister, der auch die Einweisungen von Häftlingen veranlasste. Vorgänger-Einichtung war das Konzentrationslager Nohra. Lagerkommandant war der Polizeioffizier Carl Haubenreißer. Die Kommandantur des Lagers wurde durch die Landespolizei besetzt, während die Wachmannschaft von der SA gestellt wurde.
