Achern [ˈaxɐn̩] ist eine Stadt im Westen Baden-Württembergs, etwa 18 Kilometer südwestlich von Baden-Baden und 19 Kilometer nordöstlich von Offenburg. Sie bildet ein Mittelzentrum für die umliegenden Gemeinden und ist nach der Kreisstadt Offenburg und den Städten Lahr/Schwarzwald und Kehl die viertgrößte Stadt des Ortenaukreises. Seit dem 1. Januar 1974 ist Achern Große Kreisstadt. Mit den Gemeinden Lauf, Sasbach und Sasbachwalden ist die Stadt Achern eine Vereinbarte Verwaltungsgemeinschaft eingegangen.
