Die Hansestadt Uelzen [ˈʏltsən] ist die Kreisstadt des gleichnamigen Landkreises im Nordosten Niedersachsens und Teil der Metropolregion Hamburg.
In der Stadtrechtsurkunde von 1270 trägt Uelzen zunächst den Namen Löwenwalde. Als Mitglied der Hanse kam die an der Ilmenau gelegene Stadt durch internationalen Handel zu gewissem Wohlstand. Die Altstadt mit ihren zahlreichen Baudenkmalen ist von Fachwerkarchitektur geprägt und weist zudem einige beachtliche Bauwerke der norddeutschen Backsteingotik auf.
