Werden ist heute ein Stadtteil im Süden der Stadt Essen. Als ehemalige selbständige Abtei-Stadt besitzt Werden bis heute eine historische Altstadt und viele Baudenkmäler. Den Stadtteil prägen lockere Wohnbebauung mit Handel und Gewerbe sowie Gebiete zur Naherholung im Ruhrtal. Historisch befand sich Werden, zusammen mit Kettwig und Mülheim an der Ruhr, an der Nordgrenze des bergischen Landes.
