Die Northrop Grumman LITEF GmbH wurde 1961 als Tochter des amerikanischen Litton-Konzerns in Freiburg im Breisgau gegründet. Im April 2001 erfolgte die Übernahme von Litton Industries durch Northrop Grumman. LITEF GmbH ist ein unabhängig handelndes Unternehmen innerhalb der Electronic Systems Division der Northrop Grumman Corporation, USA. Der Name LITEF leitet sich ab von LItton TEchnische Werke Freiburg. Sieben Jahre nach der Übernahme wurde der Name von LITEF GmbH in Northrop Grumman LITEF GmbH geändert.
