Der Bahnhof Potsdam Pirschheide, eröffnet 1958 als Bahnhof Potsdam Süd, war von 1961 bis 1993 der Hauptbahnhof von Potsdam und nach dem Bahnhof Flughafen Berlin-Schönefeld die wichtigste Station des Berliner Außenrings.
Obwohl die Bahnstation fernab vom Stadtzentrum am Rande der Pirschheide im Südwesten des Stadtgebietes liegt, konnte sie zu ihrer Blütezeit als Hauptbahnhof Fahrgastzahlen in großer Höhe aufweisen und stieß oft an ihre Kapazitätsgrenzen. Mit der Wiedervereinigung verlor der Bahnhof jedoch rapide an Bedeutung und wurde bis auf ein Bahnsteiggleis im unteren Bahnhofsteil fast vollständig stillgelegt.
