Groß Ellershausen ist ein westlicher Stadtteil der niedersächsischen Universitätsstadt Göttingen und war bis zu seiner Eingemeindung 1973 eine eigenständige Gemeinde.
Groß Ellershausen liegt am Hang des Leinetales, fünf Kilometer westlich der Stadt Göttingen und ist seit 1. Januar 1973 Ortsteil dieser Stadt. Die Gemarkung ist seit dem 1. September 1966 ins Landschaftsschutzgebiet Leinebergland aufgenommen. Die gesamte Gemarkungsfläche umfasst ca. 390 Hektar, einschließlich 87 Hektar Wald.
Groß Ellershausen ist überwiegend Wohngemeinde, in der noch ein landwirtschaftlicher Vollbetrieb erhalten ist.
Die Einwohnerzahl beträgt 1347 gegenüber 286 im Jahre 1939.
