Groß Ellershausen es un barrio occidental de la ciudad universitaria de Göttingen en Baja Sajonia y fue, hasta su anexión en 1973, una comunidad independiente.
Groß Ellershausen se encuentra en la ladera del valle de Leine, cinco kilómetros al oeste de la ciudad de Göttingen y ha sido desde el 1 de enero de 1973 un distrito de esta ciudad. La zona ha estado desde el 1 de septiembre de 1966 en el área de protección paisajística de Leinebergland. La superficie total de la zona abarca aproximadamente 390 hectáreas, incluyendo 87 hectáreas de bosque.
Groß Ellershausen es predominantemente una comunidad residencial, donde aún se mantiene una explotación agrícola completa.
La población es de 1347 en comparación con 286 en 1939.
