Bei der Explosionskatastrophe in Hänigsen am 18. Juni 1946 explodierten zwischen 10.000 und 12.000 Tonnen Munition, die im Bergwerk Riedel, einem Teil der Heeresmunitionsanstalt Hänigsen beim zur Gemeinde Uetze gehörenden Dorf Hänigsen in der heutigen Region Hannover, eingelagert waren. 86 Menschen kamen dabei ums Leben.
Im Bergwerk Riedel wurden während des Zweiten Weltkriegs Munition und chemische Kampfstoffe gelagert. Sie befanden sich in mehreren Kammern in 500 bis 700 Meter Tiefe.
