Durch den Wald hinauf nach Grub, geradeaus weiter und durch eine ausgedehnte Waldung bis zum Katzenbach, über die Straße hinauf nach Grafenried und dann steil bergauf zum Burgstall (976 m, Gipfelkreuz, Sendeturm des Bayerischen Rundfunks), dem Westgipfel des Hohenbogen mit herrlicher Aussicht auf die Berge des Bayerischen Waldes und des Böhmerwaldes. Bei außergewöhnlichen Wetterlagen reicht der Blick sogar bis hinauf ins Erzgebirge und hinunter zu den Alpen. Weiter zusammen mit dem örtlichen Wanderweg Ri1 auf der Asphaltstraße zum Berggasthof "Forstdiensthütte Hohenbogen“ (900 m, Einkehrmöglichkeit), auf der Forststraße „Further Weg“ talwärts und über Oberdörfl, Unterdörfl, Oberrappendorf und Hoferauer Weg zurück zum Wanderparkplatz Wutzmühle.
