Der Begriff "Alcaine" stammt vom arabischen erq ayu, 'Ort, an dem eine Quelle entspringt'. Er erscheint in einem Dokument aus dem 13. Jahrhundert als Arcaine.[4]
Eine weitere mögliche Interpretation bietet Robert Pocklington[5] für ein anderes Alcaine in Murcia: "Wenn man die Standorte des murcianischen Toponyms und von zwei weiteren in der Provinz Almería untersucht, fällt auf, dass die drei Plätze in der Nähe eines Baches liegen, an dem dieser ein Gebiet mit Bergen oder Gebirgen verlässt, die teilweise von den betreffenden Bergen umgeben sind. Daher denkt er, dass es sich um das Arabische ar-rukayn oder ar-rukayna «das kleine Eck» handeln könnte." Alcaine wurde früher auch als Arcaine erwähnt und teilt den Standorttyp mit den anderen Alcaines im Südosten.
