Der Stausee San Ponç wurde zwischen 1949 und 1957 erbaut.
Er liegt im mittleren Tal des Flusses Cardener, in der Gemeinde Solsonés, an der Grenze zu Bages, in der Provinz Lleida, Katalonien. Er gehört zu den Stauseen im Einzugsgebiet des Flusses Llobregat.
Die Senke, die durch den Cardener an der Stelle der Kapelle von San Ponç gebildet wurde, wurde für den Bau des Damms auf strukturellen Plattformen genutzt, die tief von den Wasserläufen eingegraben sind. Er ist eingebettet in eine wunderschöne Landschaft mit Kiefernwald und bietet einen ausgezeichneten Blick nach Norden auf das Cadí-Gebirge.
