Der Oberste Gerichtshof der Balearen ist die Gerichtsbarkeit, in der die gerichtliche Organisation der Balearen in ihrem jeweiligen territorialen Bereich gipfelt und vor der die nachfolgenden Verfahrensinstanzen erschöpft sind, unbeschadet der Zuständigkeiten des Obersten Gerichts. Er hat seinen Sitz in Palma.
Die Autonomiestatute von 1983 sah in seinen Artikeln 48, 50 und 57 die Existenz des TSJIB vor, die nahezu denselben Wortlaut wie die derzeit gültigen Bestimmungen hatten.
