Das Denkmal für Sant Joan Baptista de La Salle war eine der Ideen, die zum Gedenken an den dreihundertsten Geburtstag des Heiligen und den fünfzigsten Jahrestag seiner Heiligsprechung entstanden sind.
Die Segnung und Grundsteinlegung des Denkmals auf dem Mamelón-Platz fand am 3. Dezember 1950 statt. Die Einweihung fand am 25. Mai 1952 statt.
La Salle ist eine Institution mit Sitz in fast hundert Ländern, die sich der Bildung „auf der Grundlage menschlicher und christlicher Werte“ verschrieben hat . Die La Salle-Zentren sind nach Sant Joan Baptista de La Salle benannt , der „Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts mit einigen Lehrern zusammenarbeitete, um Schulen für arme Kinder zu unterhalten. Mit ihnen gründete er das Institut der Brüder der christlichen Schulen“.
