Varkaus [ˈvɑrkɑu̯s] ist eine Stadt im Osten Finnlands. Die Industriestadt liegt in der Region Savo zwischen Kuopio und Savonlinna und hat 20.278 Einwohner .Varkaus liegt am Nordrand des Saimaa-Seengebiets in der Landschaft Nordsavo. Nachbargemeinden sind Leppävirta im Norden, Heinävesi im Nordosten, Enonkoski im Südwesten sowie Savonlinna, Rantasalmi und Joroinen im Süden. Kuopio, die größte Stadt Ostfinnlands, liegt 76 Kilometer nördlich, die Entfernung zur Hauptstadt Helsinki beträgt 318 Kilometer.
