Der von Soufflot entworfene Tempel der französischen Nation war der Monarchie und der heiligen Geneviève, der Schutzpatronin von Paris, gewidmet. Während der Revolution wurde er zum Tempel der großen Männer und änderte im 19. Seit 1885, als Victor Hugo in das Pantheon aufgenommen wurde, beherbergt es die großen Persönlichkeiten des Vaterlandes, von Voltaire über Rousseau, Zola und die Curies bis hin zu Simone Veil. Eine Hommage an die Geschichte und die Größe Frankreichs.
