Montreuil-sur-Mer liegt jetzt nicht gerade am Meer... Das Meer ist 15 km von hier entfernt. Bis 1537 war diese Stadt wohlhabend, mit einem Hafen an dem Fluss Canche, der direkt mit dem Meer verbunden war. Aber alles versandete und als auch Kaiser Karl mit seiner Armee vorbeizog, war das schöne Lied endgültig vorbei.
Victor Hugo schrieb hier sein Buch 'Les Misérables'. Die Stadt wird häufig von Filmemachern genutzt.
