Wussten Sie, dass der Wissenschaftler William Thomson, besser bekannt als Lord Kelvin, im August 1847 über den Col du Bonhomme von Chamonix nach Saint-Gervais gegangen ist? Die Geschichte besagt, dass er einen anderen berühmten Wissenschaftler traf: James Prescott Joule, der hier auf Hochzeitsreise war. Herr Joule verband Geschäft mit Vergnügen und führte einige wissenschaftliche Experimente in diesem Bereich durch. Herr Joule wollte den Temperaturunterschied des Wassers vor und nach einem Wasserfall messen. Er erwartete, dass das Wasser oben etwas kälter war als unten. Joule maß die Temperatur der Cascades de Sallanches.
