¿Sabías que el científico William Thomson, más conocido como Lord Kelvin, caminó desde Chamonix hasta Saint-Gervais en agosto de 1847 por el Col du Bonhomme? La historia cuenta que se encontró con otro famoso científico: James Prescott Joule, que estaba de luna de miel aquí. El Sr. Joule estaba combinando negocios con placer y estaba realizando algunos experimentos científicos en esta área. El Sr. Joule quería medir la diferencia de temperatura del agua antes y después de una cascada. Sus expectativas eran que el agua en la cima estaba ligeramente más fría que en la parte inferior. Joule midió la temperatura de las Cascadas de Sallanches.
