Im 17. Jahrhundert wurde Charleville das neue wirtschaftliche Zentrum der Ardennen. Heute ist Charleville auch eine wichtige Touristenattraktion, nicht nur wegen seiner besonderen Anlagen und der vielen schönen Gebäude, sondern auch die an Arthur Rimbaud erinnernden Orte ziehen viele 'Rimbaldiens' oder Rimbaud-Fans in die von diesem Dichter so gehasste Stadt.
