In de 17de eeuw werd Charleville het nieuwe economische centrum van de Ardennen. Tegenwoordig is Charleville ook een belangrijke toeristentrekker, niet alleen vanwege de bijzondere aanleg en de vele fraaie gebouwen, ook de aan Arthur Rimbaud herinnerende plaatsen trekken veel 'Rimbaldiens' ofwel Rimbaudfans naar de door deze dichter zo gehate stad.
