Im Herzen von Paris, auf der Île de la Cité, erstreckt sich der Palais de Justice auf über 4 Hektar mit einer Fläche von fast 200.000 m², die auf mehrere Stockwerke verteilt ist. Als ehemalige Residenz der Herrscher verkörperte der Palast die legislative, exekutive und judikative Macht. Der geschichtsträchtige Palast bewahrt noch immer Geheimnisse über seine frühen Jahre, insbesondere während der merowingischen und karolingischen Herrschaft. Der König galt als Monarch göttlichen Rechts und hatte die gesamte Macht in seinen Händen.
