Gap ist eine französische Gemeinde und die Hauptstadt des Départements Hautes-Alpes in der Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Sie ist zudem Hauptort des gleichnamigen Arrondissements. Gap liegt im Süden der historischen Region Dauphiné.Die Stadt befindet sich im Südosten Frankreichs zwischen Dauphiné und Provence umgeben von den Dauphiné-Alpen und deren Voralpen, auf einer Höhe von 750 Metern, 100 Kilometer südlich von Grenoble und 150 Kilometer nördlich von Aix-en-Provence. Sie zählt 40.631 Einwohner und liegt am Fluss Luye, der etwa acht Kilometer unterhalb von Gap östlich von Tallard von rechts in die Durance einmündet. Im südwestlichen Gemeindegebiet verläuft der Rousine, ein weiterer Zufluss der Durance.
