Das Nordfranzösische Kohlerevier ist ein Gebiet, das vom Steinkohlenbergbau geprägt wurde und teils bis heute wird. Es erstreckt sich unweit der Grenze zwischen Frankreich und Belgien. Seit 2012 ist es UNESCO-Welterbe.Die UNESCO zeichnete ein Gebiet von 120.000 Hektar aus, auf dem sich 109 verschiedene Bauten befinden. Es handelt sich um Bergwerke mit Fördertürmen, Gleisanlagen für den Kohlentransport, Bahnhöfe, Arbeitersiedlungen, Schulen, Kirchen, Verwaltungsgebäude von Firmen, Rathäuser, Krankenhäuser und Sportstätten. Das Nordfranzösische Kohlerevier entwickelte sich in drei Jahrhunderten; es herrschten besondere Arbeitsbedingungen mit Gefahren untertage, Gewerkschaften gründeten sich, Stadtplanung war nötig.
