Die Insel wurde künstlich durch das Ausheben eines Grabens geschaffen, der die Mühle Joany im 19. Jahrhundert mit Wasser versorgte. Sie erstreckt sich über etwa 300 m in der Länge und etwa 100 m in der Breite. Eigentum der Stadt Châtellerault, beherbergt sie einen alten Pappelbestand. Als ökologischer Standort wurden hier mehrere Arten wie der Eisvogel und der Biber sowie seltene Pflanzen wie die gefüllte Knöllchen-Preiselbeere und der Winde von Europa festgestellt.
