Die Räume wurden Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts von König Louis-Philippe für sein Museum der französischen Geschichte geschaffen und 1843 eröffnet, zu einer Zeit, als Frankreich von Begeisterung für seine historische Vergangenheit ergriffen war, insbesondere für die Zeit der Kreuzzüge. Die Räume sind mit über 120 Gemälden gefüllt, die mit den Kreuzzügen in Zusammenhang stehen. König Louis-Philippe ließ die Namen der Tausenden von Familien aufnehmen, deren Vorfahren an den Kreuzzügen teilnahmen, was zu vielen Fälschungen zu dieser Zeit führte.
