Das Musée des Beaux-Arts de Pau liegt im Stadtzentrum in der Nähe des Parc Beaumont und des Boulevard des Pyrénées. Es befindet sich in einem Gebäude aus den 30er Jahren mit schlichten Linien. Die Vielfalt und Qualität seiner Sammlung machen es zu einem der großen Museen in Aquitanien. Das 1864 auf Initiative der Société des Amis des Arts gegründete Museum wurde nach und nach durch Vermächtnisse, Ankäufe der Stadt und staatliche Depots bereichert.
Die Stadt Pau legt großen Wert auf die Entwicklung der Kunst und auf Ausstellungen von nationalem Renommee und baut diese Berufung mit der Schaffung des Espace des Arts im Stadtzentrum aus, der das Musée des Beaux-Arts und die Ecole Supérieure d'Art des Pyrénées an einem einzigen Ort vereint.
