Die Pfarrei Saint-Yzans war um 1854 von einer Typhusepidemie heimgesucht worden. Die Gemeindemitglieder und ihr Pfarrer baten die Jungfrau Maria um ihren Schutz, die ihre Bitten erhörte: Die Epidemie hörte auf. Die von einer Marienstatue gekrönte Säule ist ein Ausdruck der Dankbarkeit gegenüber der Heiligen Jungfrau. Sie wurde 1858 "inmitten einer riesigen Menschenmenge, die aus den benachbarten Landstrichen herbeigeeilt war und nicht weniger als 3000 Personen umfasste!" eingeweiht.
