Diese Gedenkstätte, die heute vom Souvenir Français verwaltet wird, ist der zentrale Ort der Erinnerung an die französische Beteiligung an der Somme-Schlacht. Der Friedhof, der es umgibt, ist die größte französische Nekropole an der Somme. Er zeugt von der Heftigkeit der Kämpfe in den letzten drei Monaten der Offensive (September-November 1916).
